Registration process

Typically, parents will visit the school either during an Open Morning or a Show Round. The next procedure is to fill in an Application for Admission form and submit it to the school with the registration fee. This can be done via the Admissions section of the school website. All children entering Pre-Nursery at Rosemead are invited for an informal play session and the Admissions Registrar will make arrangements for this.

Dates and timing of play session

Our Pre-Nursery informal play sessions take place in the term prior to entry. These play sessions will be arranged on a mutually convenient basis.

What do the children need to bring?

If your child has any specific medication, please bring this with you on the day. Children will need their coats for outdoor play.

What will happen during the play session?

Upon arrival at 9.30am, you will be greeted by the Head of Pre-Prep, who will take you and your child through to the Nursery classroom. Your child will be able to access the exciting learning opportunities on offer to our current Nursery children. Staff will play and interact with your child and observe them playing with or alongside others. Outside play will be a part of the morning, as well as a fruit snack and story time. The morning will finish at 11.00am. You would be very welcome to stay with your child for this play session.

Offer letters will be posted within a week of the play session.

Offer reply date

The offer reply deadline is within two weeks of the place offer date.

Waiting list places

You will be informed if your child is on a waiting list, and we will let you know as soon as possible if a place becomes available.

This year our 4+ observational play sessions will take place on several dates during November 2024 and during January 2025. Please note that we also, typically, arrange additional 4+ session dates later in the Spring and Summer Terms, depending on place availability.

What will happen during the session?

Upon arrival at 9.30am, you will be greeted by the Head of Pre-Prep, who will take you and your child through to the Nursery as this is your child’s current age group. Your child will be able to access the exciting learning opportunities on offer to our current Nursery children. Staff will play and interact with your child and observe them playing with or alongside others. Outside play will be a part of the morning, as well as a fruit snack and story time. The morning will finish at 11.00am. We do ask parents to leave their child as soon as they are settled and to return at the end of the play session.

There are a number of places available to join our pupils moving up from our own Nursery.

Dates for assessment are made at mutually convenient times. Assessment sessions are usually just for a morning, when the child will be able to spend some time in the classroom of the year group they are looking to join.

What will happen during the morning?

Upon arrival, you and your child will be greeted by the Head of Pre-Prep, and she will then take your child to the class they will be working in. Your child will take part in the normal class lessons, as well as complete some assessments alongside a member of staff. This will usually be Writing, Reading and Mathematics. You do not need to prepare your child in any way for the assessment. Your child will join in with playtime and will be offered a mid-morning snack. This will give us the opportunity to also observe them socially and interacting with others.

We will also ask that you provide us with a copy of your child’s latest school report.

All children wishing to enter Year 3 at Rosemead are invited for our 7+ Observational Assessment and the Admissions Registrar will make arrangements for this. 

Dates and timing of assessment

This year our 7+ Observational Assessment week is in November 2024. Your child will be invited to attend one of our morning sessions (9.00am – 12.30pm), which includes joining us for lunch. Please advise of any dietary requirements when registering.

What will happen during the morning?

Upon arrival, you will be met by the Admissions Registrar. The Headmaster will welcome you and the children. Parents are then asked to leave the children and to return at the end of the morning. A typical 7+ observational assessment session consists of 15 – 18 children.

The children will take part in informal observation and interaction, as well as some academic assessment. We will invite children to take part in group activities such as art, music, drama, problem solving activities and guided reading. You do not need to prepare your child in any way for these observational assessments.

Some time will be spent speaking with the children during the observational assessment. We aim to keep the time as relaxed as possible for the children and they will be given opportunities to interact with other children and adults. We also request a reference/report from your child’s current school.

We also offer a small number of Academic Scholarships for children who are achieving highly or have the potential to do so at Rosemead.

Number of places available

We usually have around 20 places available to join pupils moving up from our own Pre-Prep.

The children will be assessed in English including reading for comprehension and a writing task. They will also be assessed in Mathematics, looking at numbers, shape, space and measures. The topics covered are the appropriate level for their age. You do not need to prepare your child in any way for the assessment.

Some time will be spent speaking with the children before the assessment begins. Throughout the assessment, the children will be given a number of short breaks in addition to one longer playtime break where they will receive refreshments. We aim to keep the time as relaxed as possible for the children and they will be given time to browse through books and draw.
